How do I plant your plugs, and how far apart?
Space your super-plugs 25cm to 50cm apart (9 to 18 inches). They need space to mature into, and to drop seed.
Dig a hole with a trowel, spade or bulb planter. As deep as the plug-roots are.
If planting into grass, strim or cut a dinner-plate size patch, remove the cuttings, then plant the plug at the centre. This ensures it gets light to be able to grow properly.
Water the hole. Let it soak away, then put the plug in. This puts the plug into contact with wet soil, giving the plant an instant drink.
Firm soil around the root-ball - not too hard, but hard enough to support the roots. The soil should be at the same level as where the stem of the plant starts. You can actually bury the bottom of the stem in cases where the plant seems to flop over. To give it support.
You've done it.
Unless there is heavy rain, water you plants again - well (not a sprinkle, a proper drink) - twice a week, daily in very hot dry weather. For the first fortnight.
Then ease off.
Then stop, unless there is a drought, usually after the first month, but until you feel that the plants are growing nicely, and can look after themselves.
Your plug is a teenager. By year 3, many wildflowers have leaves covering the area of a large dinner plate.
